Medieval Shields Function

Medieval shields were usually very strongly influenced by the newly developed weapons that are easy to destroy a light shield. A shield for the primary function is to defend against a soldier or swords projectiles. Bullets were useless against shields (unless they were Longbow, and the shields virtually worthless). In addition, foot-soldiers could regulate itself, and on the field - which means that they can protect three sides of a partnership between the adjustment of the shields, which will help them to progress slowly and steadily, while the damage caused by bullets and swords.

The second important function of a shield of recognition. A very common sign is the symbol of the country in which the soldiers belonged. Battles were often very confusing and identify who was a friend and enemy, a very tedious work - hence the construction of shields with logos for better recognition.

The third function of a shield was the attack. Although this is quite incredible how a sign was offensive and defensive shields. Better shields would be very often a sharp edge, so that the user may be his enemy and killing him with one blow. A sign, because it is made of metal and very heavy, could easily kill an enemy in one strike. Of course, they were very slow - but not that strong wielder can quickly enough to the main objective of survival by killing. As can be seen shields were very effective and thus their massive use. There were a number of shields - you can read more about it in the dictionary.
