Renaissance Clothing to Represent Character

During the Renaissance, the elite members of the aristocracy generally wore custom designed renaissance clothing handmade from exquisite silks, wools, and cottons that had a lush hand and that were embroidered with complicated patterns, elaborate details, and decorated with ornaments.

In the Renaissance, family wealth and stature was established by the clothes they wore, the more ornate and expensive, the richer they were. (from the 14th to the mid-seventeenth century). That was the Renaissance period.

Interestingly enough, because there is little opportunity for financial investment, renaissance clothing of the ruling class was not only as an indication of prosperity, but a form of investment. In times of financial hardship, the clothes, along with other wedding gifts, can be sold for cash or bartered for other goods.

Substances that are most difficult to produce and therefore the most expensive and exclusive, is favored by the designers in the Renaissance. These included cotton, velvet, silk and brocade. Currently, each of which is labor intensive and/or a large distance from Western Europe, but in Egypt for cotton. Ribbons, seed pearls and gold/silver threads were pillars of the fashion in those days for the clothing of the Renaissance decorate. In the Renaissance, women's clothing was the range of simple, basic elements such as under skirts, shirts and clothing to more imaginative and decorative pieces such as full skirts, bodice on, tires and collar.

Men's renaissance clothing on the other hand, was often to the body shape, with a rounded look. (Something like a barrel). Renaissance clothing often padded shoulders and trousers and hats, from the same colors and fabrics, embellished with the same embroidery and had fancy finishes that completed the Renaissance clothing of women.
