Medieval Clothing Varieties

Medieval clothing was worn in different varieties. Poorer people had less choice of comfortable clothing. A farmer in the medieval period or the Dark Ages, often had to settle with only a few rare robes or tunics. Wool is the most common material of the day, with scratchy underwear daily. Laundry, and facilities for the issue, it was only rarely. At the top of the economic level, royalties displayed their wealth in ostentatious clothes.

Upper scale medieval clothes turned to the latest fashions and trends. In fact, many medieval clothing was really from property. As a representation of wealth, the royal medieval clothing was the latest styles and fashions. Long trains and jewelry are usually expensive clothing supplemented women of that time. Medieval clothing for men is often as much preparation as the woman.

If you have seen, one of the medieval fancy dress clothing, in films such as Braveheart, this extravagant display of wealth through clothing is an easily recognizable feature of this period.

For the poorer inhabitants of the Middle Ages, utility was more important than style and comfort. At the other end of the spectrum, people in the royalty of the time focused on the style rather than utility or comfort. Styles changed as often as is the case today, or maybe even more.
