Medieval blacksmith has so much influence on the design of the age in which they lived, if they participated in the metal. Medieval Europe was the time of the first major advances in science and technology and new practices in agriculture, manufacturing, construction and fights constantly introduced.
The medieval blacksmith first appeared as a part-metal worker. As the settlements grew in size and construction set up shop, the first guilds were. Companies with more than just the unions. This was the medieval forge an important and powerful position in society of that time.
The guild is the approach of the student teaching young men the trade. Boys of 15 or so would be teaching a master blacksmith and lived with him as part of the students and some servants. The students would do all the cleaning and menial tasks in the forge, and, if necessary, by the blacksmith at home. Once the master blacksmith was convinced of the students with the skills, he would be more complex work, always under the supervision of his master, until the captain was satisfied that the students had learned that the master can teach in that moment he was to go and his own forge.
The blacksmith was an important member of society and in times of unrest or war could live and work in the premises of the local castle, the safest place. The army needed weapons, and forge their killed or captured by the enemy meant that the army's ability to cope has been severely restricted.
