Today's collector's and reenactors love to buy Medieval helmets. Roman helmets are popular helmets used for Passion plays, costumes, and reenactments. Fortunately, most Roman helmets are going to be made on the larger side, often times exceeding 23 inches in diameter. This goes for the Centurion helmet as well as the common trooper helmet. In fact, most people will need an arming cap or helmet liner to make the fit more snug. Medieval helmets are going to be a little bit different. In general, these are made a little smaller than Roman helmets.
Roman battle and soldier reenactments are more popular in Europe than in the U.S. However, Passion plays and costumes parties use Roman armor and weapons a lot. There are two main types of ancient Roman helmets that people will use for plays: the Roman centurion helmet and the trooper helmet. The centurion helmet has a red plume, either facing front to back or side to side, and the trooper helmet is the common soldier's helmet that would stand guard at the foot of the cross.
The Crusader helmet, sugar loaf, and similarly constructed helmets are going to be larger in size and will fit most people. However, helmets such as the European Close Helmet and the Viking Horn helmet are going to be about a medium size, so half the people can wear them. Ask your local online retailer whether their helmets are made large enough for your head. Lastly, Greek helmets (such as the Italic Corinthian, Spartan helmet, and Trojan helmet) are going to be on the larger side also. In general, they can fit hat sizes up to 7 3/4 or more, so you may very well need an arming cap to make it more comfortable and snug.
